Historic York, Inc. is always looking for volunteers. The only requirement needed is a willingness to learn and an enthusiastic spirit. Volunteers receive training, discounts to the Architectural Warehouse, and invitations to the Annual Meeting, discounts to special events, and special access to the Resource Library. There are many different volunteer opportunities available to you with Historic York, Inc. Opportunities include:
Home Tour Host
Docents provide support for Historic York, Inc. largest annual fundraiser by helping visitors navigate the locations on the tour. Held the second Sunday in October. Volunteers receive a free pass to visit the other houses on the tour for the opposite shift worked. Guide materials are provided by staff.
Marketing/Development Assistant
Marketing/Development Assistant’s help write press releases, coordinate special events, develop tourism promotion packages, help with mailings, and help with list management
Archives or Collection Assistant
Archives and Collection volunteers assist the Executive Director with collection management projects that include installing exhibitions, scanning the slide and photograph collection, transcribing manuscripts, cataloging, photographing, completing condition reports on artifacts and manuscripts, and collections data entry
Preservation Education Assistant
A preservation education assistant provides walking tours and hands-on activity workshops developed for groups of school age children or adults
